A Palm Springs Bedroom on a Budget

Palm Springs style is mid-century bones with desert colours: pale wood, cane, terracotta, cream, and as much daylight as you can let in. It suits a Queensland bedroom better than almost anything else, because it’s built for heat.
You don’t need all of this. The headboard, the bedding and the mirror are the three that change the room. If you already have a bed frame you like, the duvet set, the lamp and the arched mirror will shift the whole feel for well under $200.
The palette is terracotta, cream, cane and black in small doses. No grey, no chrome, no shine. Every surface should be something you’d want to touch.
Putting the room together
Bedding first. Terracotta linen, left rumpled, with the mud cloth throw folded across the foot. Two pillows, not six.
Then the big three. Rattan headboard behind the bed. Arched mirror leaning on the dresser, or on the wall opposite the window so it bounces light back into the room. Cane nightstand on one side with the terracotta lamp.
Light next. Plug-in brass sconce on the other side of the bed if you read at night. Sheer curtains hung high, pooling slightly on the floor. After dark, use the lamp and the sconce only.
Floor and corners last. The round jute rug goes half under the bed. Fiddle leaf in the brightest corner. Three palm prints in a row above the dresser, cheap frames, and the terracotta pots on the sill with one trailing plant.
Then stop. The hardest part of this look is not adding more.
